Hello

☀︎

I'm Ellie, a photographer and creative practitioner based in Greater Manchester.

I fell (and continue to fall) in love with the storytelling qualities of photography and as my practice develops, I’ve found I equally enjoy sharing these skills with others through local opportunities, workshops, and collaborations, see more on my community page.

I’ve been lucky enough to spend much of my life in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and my experience of migration has deeply influenced my practice. I’m interested in exploring themes of home, place and belonging, and understanding how and why we form relationships with the places we inhabit, to see more head over to my Projects page.

I work with both digital, and analogue photography, I often work in a darkroom (yes they still exist), developing my own film and prints. These processes are an important part of my personal projects and my commercial work. I have a slight obsession, and admiration for bookmaking and sometimes put my bookmakers hat on having self-published several publications which are sometimes available to buy on myshop.

My second skill (or first, depending who you ask) is chatting, I love a chat and I often incorporate written and audio elements, such as oral histories nto my work. Recently I have been experimenting with printmaking techniques such as etching, screenprinting and letter pressing, which I explore mostly for myself and for the harmony of doing.

I have an undergraduate degree in Fine Art, and I am currently studying towards my MA in Socially Engaged Photography at the University of Salford. More than anything, it’s teaching me to let go, loosen up, and be an all round better photographer and creative, something that feeds into my personal projects, community practice. and commerical work.

Thanks for stopping by, and please get in touch if like me you love to chat!
