Broadfield Park Slopes Heritage Photo Walk, developed and delivered in partnership with Rochdale Development Agency.
A Heritage Photo Walk that invited participants to explore the history of Rochdale through photography, encouraging them to connect with the town's heritage by observing and documenting the present. Walking through Broadfield Park Slopes and nearby landmarks, including St Chad's Church, Rochdale Town Hall, the Church Steps and Broadfield Park, participants were encouraged to slow down, look closely, and share memories and stories inspired by the places they encountered.
The walk drew upon archive photographs courtesy of Rochdale Local Studies Centre, alongside images from my grandfather, M. J. Burgess' photography archive. These historical photographs acted as prompts for discussion, inviting participants to consider how the town has changed over time while reflecting on their own relationship with place, memory and local heritage.
This event formed part of the Broadfield Park Slopes Project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
