‘Culture Lab - Holmfirth Perspectives’. Photography Walk + Zine making with We Are Local & Kirklees Council. November 2024.
At the end of 2024 I was asked to work with my local community in Holmfirth, Kirklees to create a zine, mapping Holmfirth and highlighting key cultural landmarks within the area. This workshop was commissioned by We Are Local and Kirklees Council as part of their Cultural strategy work and on-going community consultations.
As a group we walked a pre-planned route through Holmfirth focusing on nine elements of the community, ‘events’, ‘education’, ‘outdoor spaces’, ‘nature’, ‘religion’, ‘hospotality’, ‘local produce’, ‘mills and industry’ and ‘tourism’. During the walk participants were encouraged to share personal memories, and anicdotes on these spaces whilst taking photographs reflecting on these themes.
Particpants later shared their imagery, and with quotes taken from the photography walk I was able to produce the ‘Holmfirth Perspectives’ zine.
