In 2020, I joined the the Ferrymead Print Society in Otautahi - Christchurch, a welcoming workspace in an even more welcoming environment. During this time, I produced a short series of relief and monoprint works, some which can be seen here.
Having recently returned to the North of England, I've joined the West Yorkshire Print Workshop, in Mirfield with plans to experiment with screen printing from slide photographs.
This series conincides with a larger photo-based project, in which I plan to digitise my late grandfather's - M J Burgess - photographic archive. A keen photographer, his archive captures his working class, British surroundings from the seventies, up until his passing in 2021.
With a passion for flora and fauna, in his later life he turned his lens toward British public and private gardens - especially his own, where we all knew him to be happiest.
These prints stand as a celebration of his life and an outlet for my own grief and understanding of his physical and mental battle with cancer.
Prints from this first series are available to purchase through the 'shop' function of this website, each run in an addition of three with 50% of proceeds being donated to Prostate Cancer UK.
